In Memoriam is the story of four siblings who have felt like orphans for as long as they can remember. Their mother took her own life when they were all still young – and each one in turn then broke off contact with their wealthy father, believing him to be at the root of the tragedy. Following his death, the children, their spouses, and a mysterious total stranger are all invited to the reading of his will. To their shock, they learn that none of them are due to inherit as much as one cent. Their only hope of getting their hands on his fortune is to take part in a series of challenges he has contrived to determine which one of his children might win his inheritance.

A tribute documentary on Fernando Ramos da Silva, the famous child star of the acclaimed film by Hector Babenco, "Pixote, a Lei do Mais Fraco" (1981). 20 years after his assassination by the police, his co-stars and Babenco talk about Fernando's contributions to the film, his troubled life when his acting works didn't took off as expected (since he was typecast) and which made him turn back to his past life of poverty and crimes. The project also presents that film's influence to many directors and artists around the world.

Sixteen-year-old apprentice Zuzka commutes to Prague, where she is studying to become a "mechanic and agricultural machinery adjuster." She lives alternately at a boarding school and at her parents' farm. At home, endless work awaits her, and at school, she is constantly ridiculed by her classmates. Only at night, in the girls' dormitory, under the covers, can she live out her dreams of love. She is secretly and platonically in love with actor and singer Jiří Pavel, about whom she knows everything. She keeps a scrapbook diary in which she records all of Pavel's acting and singing successes.

György Szomjas’s first feature—made after a decade of short documentaries—is a bold attempt at a goulash western, set on the puszta, or Great Hungarian Plain, in 1837. Mixing Miklós Jancsó imagery and a Sergio Leone narrative, this ballad-like saga opens with image of a lone horseman on the empty plain, riding past a rude gallows. The film concerns the vengeful return of a legendary betyár (outlaw), briefly a hero to the local herdsmen who oppose the state building a canal across their grazing land. Although Szomjas works from ethnographic records and archival material, it is hardly surprising that this violent, primitivist film would be more popular with Hungarian audiences than critics. Replete with young guns, crooked sheriffs, tavern brawlers and hardbitten plug-uglies, this widescreen film is strikingly shot by Elémer Ragályi (cinematographer for most of Gyula Gazdag’s films)—a feast of loamy, autumnal colors.
